Benniman has announced the winners of a carpentry competition for students at Heart of Worcestershire College.

Jonah Barnett has won first prize in the battle to produce the best bug hotel, which was open to the college’s level 1 and 2 carpentry students.

Judges praised Jonah for his “detailed adherence to specifications” and awarded him £250.00 in Screwfix vouchers, donated by Benniman.

Prizes were also awarded to runners-up, including Poppy Gazard, who was honoured by the college for her work in designing and building furniture for Northleigh CE Primary School in Malvern.

The bug hotel project saw teaching staff nominate their top ten designs, based on effort, technical ability and student attendance.

Shortlisted entries were assessed by a judging panel including Benniman Contracts Manager, David Lee, and HSQE Director, Andy McNair.

It is the latest initiative in an on-going partnership between Benniman and Heart of Worcestershire College, which has included teaching engagements, career advice, and a hosted tour of St. Modwen Park for electrical installation students.

Andy McNair said: “It was a pleasure to sponsor and judge the winners of the bug hotel project for carpentry students at Heart of Worcestershire College. As a business, we’re hugely proud to support local students by fostering their development and celebrating their achievements. We’re very much looking forward to continuing our relationship with the college into the next academic year and working together more holistically to provide even greater opportunities for young people.”
