Benniman hosts T Level college students at Indurent Park Lichfield

Benniman has welcomed students from Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Institute of Technology (SoTSIoT) to a live site in Lichfield, as part of their pathway to a career in construction.

Five SoTSIoT students learnt more about Indurent Park Lichfield, a new 432,000 sq ft industrial/logistics development which is currently under construction.

The students, who are all undertaking a T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction, saw first hand how the project is developing, during a guided tour of the site.

SoTSIoT is one of only 20 Institutes of Technology located across England and supports students with work placement opportunities as part of their qualification.

Felicity Porter, T Level Industry Placement Officer: Design, Surveying & Planning for Construction from SoTSIoT, came to site as part of the placement process.

She said: “Opportunities like this are invaluable for our T-Level students. Visiting a live construction site allows them to see how the knowledge they gain in the classroom is applied in a real-world environment, while also giving them insight into the wide range of careers available within the industry.

“We are grateful to Benniman for supporting our learners and helping to inspire the next generation of construction professionals.”

The event follows an earlier site tour at Indurent Park Lichfield, which involved lecturers and technicians from South Staffordshire College as part of their continuing professional development. It builds on Benniman’s commitment to developing the next generation of construction professionals, which includes a strategic partnership with Heart of Worcestershire College.

Benniman HSQE director, Andy McNair, said: “We enjoy a really positive relationship with local educators and are pleased to facilitate opportunities whenever we can.

“It’s incredibly important to support young people embarking on a career in construction. There are so many varied and fulfilling roles available but with ongoing skills shortages, we feel it’s incumbent on all stakeholders to work together to both promote the sector and provide valuable ‘real world’ experience.”

Indurent Park Lichfield will be completed in two phases, with Phase 1 scheduled to deliver three high-quality industrial units ranging from 46,090 to 77,537 sq ft, available from October 2026. Find out more, here.
